In this online session, we will review the basics of how to make lake pigments out of exhausted dye baths and foraged plants. Explore the plant based color that can be found in gardens, foraged in the wild, and even from your kitchen waste. Expand your creative practice with living color as your medium by using lake pigments for watercolors, candle dyes paint and more.

Few people know that plant dyes for fabric can also be processed to become water insoluble pigment for surface application. Bring living color to your creative practice by learning how to turn plant dyes into pigments for a wide variety of color applications.

During this course, we will walk through the following :

How to forage/gather plants

and how to extract pigment.

How to dry and grind lake pigments

How to use lake pigments to make your own watercolor palette, paint, beeswax candle dye and more.

This will be a 2 hour course. Participants will have access to a recording of the session, as well as a digital environment containing all class notes with visual resources, recipes and recommended suppliers. . All class notes and visuals will be shared after the live session.
