In this online session, Winona will walk through how to start planning for the 2024 growing season. Green Matters started with a dye garden, and there is nothing more satisfying than growing your own dye plants, whether in a large back yard, or in containers on your fire escape. By growing your own dye plants, cooking them into dye, and using them to transform yarn, garments or fabric, you are engaging in slow fashion in a thoughtful and circular way.

During this course, we will walk through the following : 

Highlighting a variety of plants that produce dye

How to grow them (including troubleshooting, spacing, lighting etc)

How to preserve them for future use, 

The best ways to cook the plant to extract dye, 

Basic mordanting recipes

Best practices for dyeing with raw plant material at a small scale. 

This will be a 2 hour course. Participants will have access to a recording of the session, as well as an instruction document for reference.
