Explore printmaking and patterns using natural dyes! We will dye with primary color dyes to create a full rainbow and limitless hues and values. In class, we will mix mordant print pastes and print directly with thickened mordants on natural fibers. We will go over mixing an aluminum (bright) print paste and an iron (dark) print paste, and many values in between. We will paint, screen print, and block print with these pastes, creating varied values and patterns on a single piece of cloth dyed in immersion dye baths. 

Teacher Highlight:

Kristin is a natural dyer, educator, gardener, and designer based in Maryland. She has taught workshops and led retreats all over the country, served on the board of Local Cloth, and been involved in Fibersheds, from Northern California, to the Mid-Atlantic, to the Blue Ridge Mountains. By exploring the collision of textiles, plants, and sustainability, her goal is to help make the study of natural dyes accessible to everyone through education and enthusiasm. S

This event is happing on Saturday March 8th from 11:00am to 5:00pm at Green Matters Natural Dye Company in Gap, Pennsylvania.

This includes up to 5 pounds of personal items to dye. This is a great opportunity to freshen up favorites from your wardrobe that are made of cotton, linen, silk, wool, hemp and other natural fibers. There will also be cotton tote bags and fabric swatches provided, with other dyeable items for sale. Always consider checking out the thrift store a few doors down the street from us.

General admission is $115; General Admission + Lunch is $135. If you are opting for a lunch ticket, please reach out to our team if you have any dietary restrictions or needs.

Please dress in layers, and we ask that you wear old clothing and shoes. ** IF YOU HAVE RAIN BOOTS OR MUCKBOOTS, WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND BRINGING THEM ALONG!! **
